How does an ATS actually read my resume?
Most ATS platforms convert your PDF or Word file into plain text before a recruiter ever opens it. If that conversion fails (because of an image-based scan, unusual formatting, or text embedded in tables and graphics), a strong candidate can be filtered out before a human sees the resume at all. The score is a weighted sum of eight checks: whether your text extracts cleanly, whether contact details are easy to find, whether you use standard section headers, whether your dates are present and consistently formatted, whether your resume length is reasonable, whether you use bullet points, how well your resume's keywords match a job description you provide, and whether tables or images might confuse a parser. No AI is involved in the score. Every check is a deterministic rule.
